Soroptimist International is a worldwide organization for
women of all ages, cultures and ethnic groups. in a wide variety of professions.
Soroptimists focus on "making a difference for
women," through club projects, and by engaging in
awareness, advocacy and action in the service of her community and society to
make the world a better place for humankind.
A Soroptimist is a leader in her
community, Many noteworthy women have been Soroptimists, including a
United States Supreme Court justice; the first woman to serve as the mayor of a
large city in the United States; and the 1962 recipient of the United States
President’s Award for Distinguished Civilian Service.
The word Soroptimist was coined from two Latin words,
"soror" and "optima," which loosely translates as "best
for women."
